ONETT HOUSE CHALLENGE

Anyone who's bothered to explore every corner of Onett has surely noticed the infamous house that's for sale on Beak Point, located on the far bottom-left corner of town. The man standing in the doorway is selling the house for a cool $7,500, but is it worth it? Anyone who's come back to Onett later on in the game will tell you "No, not really." and that's probably true. The house is actually a wreck. The back wall is missing (but the realtor would argue how that's the view he was talking about) and there's nothing worth $7,500 to be found. There's only a weird journal excerpt about a demon child and a photoman location. So if you're trying to get all the photos, just return to Onett when $7,500 is chump change. It's just not worth it.

There is, however, one other use for the house depending on what kind of person you are. Any hardcore EarthBound fan would buy the house before leaving Onett for the very first time, and the most hardcore of the hardcore would buy it before even fighting Frank! Do you have what it takes (i.e., time)?! Here are some helpful hints that you can use to minimize the time it takes to complete this challenge, with a few hidden incentives thrown in.

CHALLENGE GOAL: Raise $7,500 to purchase the house before leaving Onett (or fighting Frank).

CHALLENGE TIPS:
  1. Since you're going to be fighting tons and tons of enemies, you can take the time to do the Sound Stone trick if you'd like. Not only will it free up a space in your goods and raise a few bucks in the process (from fighting Crows and selling the Cookies afterwards; don't forget the Cookie Tracy gives you and the Bread Roll!), but you'll also be at a good level to begin fighting Sharks.
  2. Go ahead and buy the Tee-ball Bat (sell the Cracked Bat) and the Cheap Bracelet. You'd think that to save time you shouldn't buy anything, but you'll just be wasting time having to heal or possibly die in battle early on without the Bat and Bracelet.
  3. Skate Punks (worth $17 each) drop Pizza as a 1/128 item. You'll be fighting a lot of Sharks (especially if you're trying to buy the house before beating Frank) so why not make this part of your 1/128 challenge as well? Don't be sentimental though, those Pizzas go for $24 at the drug store so sell them along with the Hamburgers ($7) you get from every Pogo Punk ($18) and Bags of Fries ($4) from the occasional Yes Man Jr ($18.) Don't use any of these Goods, but sell them all once your inventory is full.
  4. If you decide not be super hardcore and beat Frank ($48 for Frank and $31 for Frankystein Mark II) during the challenge, the Sharks will disappear, but you'll be able to fight the baddies in Giant Step: Rowdy Mouse ($9), Black Antoid ($7), and Attack Slug ($6.) Attack Slugs drop Bombs ($74) as 1/128 items so there's another reason to fight tons of them. Titanic Ant offers $150. Sell the Goods found in present boxes in the caves.
  5. At the Police Station, Cops will give you $18 each and Strong gives you $159.
  6. Once you beat Strong, you're done in Onett, but that doesn't mean you have to leave. A new area of the town opens south of the former Road Block. Here you'll find Rambllin' Evil Mushroom ($15) which can Mashroomize you. Luckily, the Bush Hospital isn't far from this area. Sell the mushrooms to the healer in the lobby for $50 a piece.
