- If you need healing, it's much cheaper to head back home instead of to Podunk. Plus, you'll need the cash soon enough! - Don't forget to pick up the LifeUpCream in the Zoo Office. It refills all HP no matter what! |
Heading further north from Canary Village, you'll find the Podunk zoo. As you may also find soon, the animals are loose and quite agitated. A lone monkey guards the zoo entrance, and if you happen to have the Zoo Key, you'll gain entry to the carnage inside.
While it might be tempting to go straight for the source of the ruckus, it's highly advised to level up a bit outside the gate. Most enemies hit hard and have much higher HP and Defense than the enemies you fought before. Shoot for levels 12-14, as by then, you can probably fell hyenas, tigers, and gators with a single hit.
Venturing further inside the zoo, you'll have to take a snaking pattern to progress east. Along the way, you'll find a note on a cage about a singing monkey. Unfortunately, it seems that the very monkey in question is the loose one that took your key. Remember this spot, however, as it will be important later.
Eventually you'll find the Zoo Superintendent's Office. Stepping inside, you'll be treated to a high-pitched tone. The enemies here are much easier, so exploring the rooms for presents is highly advised.
At the very top, you'll come upon a strange capsule-like thing. If you check it out, you'll find yourself in a battle against a Starman Jr.! The battle can be easy or tough: It hits rather hard and has various PK Beam forms. However, if you're lucky, it'll try to use PK Beam r, and your Franklin Badge will reflect it back. While the spaceman has immunity to the instant-K.O. effects, it'll give you an extra turn to smash him up.
After the fight, the tone will cease and the zoo will be free from random encounters. Pick up any items you may have missed your first time through and head back to the Singing Monkey's pen. Check the sign out again to hear the song the simian has to sing: the third melody!
