You're on the final and most difficult leg of your journey. The Cave of the Past will push you and your characters to the limit -- and then there's Giygas. However, you should have an advantage on your side in the form of Ness. Ness' insanely high amount of HP and PP along with his vast array of PSI powers essentially makes him a one-man army. He'll be carrying the whole group to victory, in other words.

When you step out of the Phase Distorter, you'll find yourself in some very strange surroundings. There's not much left to do but trudge forward through an endless sea of enemies. First, though, make note of the multi-use Phase Distorter at your disposal. It has two functions -- repair your robot body, or call Dad. Repair replenishes all members' HP and PP, while calling Dad obviously serves the use of saving your game.

There is no leaving this place, so if you save your game here, you'll be stuck for good. Not even the Exit Mouse can get you out.
Don't save here if you intend to explore other places in the game later!

There's a wide variety of enemies in this cave. Of all of them, the Nuclear Reactor Robots, Ghost of Starmen, and Final Starmen pose the greatest threat. The Nuclear Reactor Robot explodes upon defeat, dishing out a large amount of damage to one to two party members. The Ghost of Starman can use PSI Starstorm α, while the Final Starman possesses PSI Starstorm Ω along with PSI Healing Ω -- meaning he can revive fallen enemies.

It's best to use your physical attacks on the enemies here. You don't want to waste valuable items and PSI that you'll need for the final battle. Still, Ness' PSI is good for healing party members when needed. The Ultimate Octobot occasionally drops a PSI Caramel, while the Wild 'n Wooly Shambler is prone to leaving Multi Bottle Rockets behind -- two very worthy items. You'll find another "butterfly spot" in the second section of the cave.

In the "second" and "third" sections of the cave, you'll occassionally encounter the Bionic Kraken enemy. He possesses the mighty Gutsy Bat, but once again, you only have a 1/128 chance of getting it. You're at the very end of the game, so you don't really NEED the Gutsy Bat, but it's there if you want to try to get it.

At the end of this last section is a cave entrance which leads to a large membrane-like area. The entire floor heaves and pulses as if alive, and the only sound to be heard is a steady, labored breathing. Before going on, have Poo lifeup everyone to max HP, and then use Brain Food Lunches to max out everyone's PP. Then trek through this area and ultimately you'll reach the focal point of the membrane -- a single 'eye' device.

With a shudder, the entire screen heaves as the eye dilates, revealing a face -- Ness' face, only with a blue cap. Pokey teleports from above, encased inside a Spider Mech apparatus, and descends upon you. He speaks of the prophecy foretold by the Apple of Englightenment, and speaks of the very nature of Giygas -- no longer is he the wielder of evil, but the evil power made manifest. After he speaks, the final battle begins.
