Before you head into the swamp, you'll want to make sure Jeff has the Heavy Bazooka. If you got the Broken Bazooka from the Fourside sewers, Jeff can fix it if his IQ is over 45. The Heavy Bazooka acts like a Super Bomb in battle, except it doesn't disappear after it's used. This is definitely a must-have item.

Now you'll come to the 'Darkness' part of Deep Darkness. Heading south of the Arms Dealer will bring you to an area that is completely shrouded in blackness. Use the Hawk Eye. It will disappear from your inventory, but in return, the rest of Deep Darkness will be permanently lit. Now you can traverse Deep Darkness and actually see where you're going!

Just south of the monkey village is an odd man (only his snorkel is visible) who will offer to let you withdraw cash from your ATM account, except that he'll also hit you with a 100% finance charge. Ouch. If you really need money to purchase Multi-Bottle Rockets or such, go ahead and get some from him. If you really don't want to pay the charge, you can just teleport somewhere and get money from an ATM, then teleport back.

You can have the businessman here heal you for free! Just tell him you'll pay later. Just be sure you don't ever choose "Cash" any time after that, or you'll have to pay off your tab!
Telling him you'll pay later will also result in a neat extra line at the end of the game!
The enemies of Deep Darkness can be pretty numerous, so feel free to avoid them. Fortunately, they move very slow, so you won't have much trouble out-running them. The only enemies you may end up fighting are Pit Bull Slugs and Zap Eels, neither of which put up a good fight. Just use physical attacks and LifeUp when necessary. Again, try to stay out of the deep water as much as possible.
If you use the Piggy Nose, you can hunt down hidden Magic Truffles in Deep Darkness. They restore a lot of PP, so they're very nice items to have. Consult the map to see their exact locations.
The gift boxes here in the Deep Darkness have some excellent items, like a Rock Candy and an IQ Capsule. There's also a Souvenir Coin, which is the best "Other" equipment in the game for Ness and Jeff. So don't pass up these items!

After much trudging, you'll come across a pinkish enemy. He'll meet you halfway. This is Master Barf, Master Belch's more powerful reincarnation. This time around, he has no weaknesses for Fly Honey, so you'll just have to use physical attacks with Ness, PSI Freeze with Paula and Jeff's Heavy Bazooka. It should only take two or three rounds if you don't feel like doing the following...
As soon as the battle begins, however, have Jeff use a Multi-Bottle Rocket. Using only one of these will end the battle immediately. You'll know you've won when Poo suddenly descends from the sky and rejoins your party. When this happens, he'll use his newly acquired power, PSI Starstorm Alpha. This attack will destroy Master Barf for good, and end the battle.
When you defeat Master Barf, you'll win the Casey Bat. It's really strong, but it misses 75% of the time. So if you value your sanity, DO NOT EQUIP THE CASEY BAT!
Don't sell it or throw it away though -- it can still be of use later on, especially if you're a 1/128 item hunter.
With Poo back in your party, continue through the rest of Deep Darkness. There isn't much farther to go. You'll know that you've made it when you see a cave entrance in the upper left corner of the map. Welcome to Tenda Village.
