You'll notice that you can't use the ATM machine (because Jeff doesn't have Ness's ATM card, duh), but fortunately there is a free black phone on the counter. Go ahead and call Maxwell Labs on it and save your game.

Jeff can't afford much yet, but go ahead and sell any items you don't want. Keep the Broken Spray Can; you can fix and sell it later on.
In the drugstore is a monkey and a woman who'll offer you the monkey in exchange for buying a pack of bubble gum for $1. The monkey will actually prove to be pretty helpful as you move along. Before you leave, offer the Pak of Bubble Gum to the monkey, and it'll be so happy it'll join you!

Not too far along in Jeff's journey south, you will come across an isolated tent. Inside, you will encounter two guys who will graciously offer you to rest. Take the opportunity! In fact, it's a good idea to fight enemies around this tent and build up levels a little, since Jeff has no PP for recovering his health and only cookies as food. Try to get up to level 5 or 6 before you move on.

Follow the path and you'll come to where the Tessie Watching Club has set up camp. They'll tell you about the legend of Tessie, the beast said to live here in Lake Tess. Use the phone in one of the tents to call Maxwell and save, and then sleep in the far left tent and have some stew. When you wake up, the wind will be blowing. Go to the little dirt patch in the snow. Bubble Monkey will tell you to give him some gum and... the legend is true!

Tessie gives you a lift to another part of Winters. Soon after, you'll find a cave with the words "BRICK ROAD" inscribed over it and a path blocked by another pencil statue. You'll have to go in the cave since Jeff doesn't have a Pencil Eraser. Inside is a mini-maze. Be sure to open all the presents. An easy way to do this is make it through the maze, talk to Brick Road, then go back inside. All the enemies will be gone, but not the presents!

|
Use the telephone Brick Road generously left you and then leave; the dungeon master is waiting for you. He'll congratulate you for getting through the dungeon and let you take a rest, restoring your much-needed HP. Now head for the Pond Cave a little more to the south.

The cave is pretty straightforward. Fighting Attack Slugs is really useful to build up experience. You'll come to a room with ropes. Go up the first rope and get the Cheap Bracelet. Then go stand at the bottom of the rope you can't reach and give some gum to the Bubble Monkey. He'll float up and lower the rope to you.

|
There's a shining spot boss here, but even if you try to fight it, you can't. It will simply tell you that only Ness can absorb the power of the Your Sanctuary it guards. Don't worry about it right now, you'll be back later.
|
|
|
When you step outside of the cave, the Bubble Monkey will immediately catch sight of an attractive (if you're a monkey, that is) female monkey. There's nothing you can do but watch the two lovebirds take off. You're on your own now.

Be extremely careful with the Cave Boys. They can easily kill you if you get in a fight with them and you are unlucky. However, if you do defeat one, it's worth a lot of exp. and a free Picnic lunch, a valuable food item. If you fight one, its attack will usually miss you, but if it connects it can do up to 40 HP of damage. Eat some food if your HP dips below that 40 mark and keep attacking it. You should be alright.

The big lab you see at the far south of Winters belongs to the famed Dr. Andonuts, Jeff's father. He will be shocked to see you and will offer you a donut, even though he doesn't have any donuts. Then he'll instruct you to use the Sky Runner to get back to Threed and rescue your friends. After you talk to him, climb in (just approach and push up against it) and you'll be on your way back to Threed.
