SCENE 10 - SCHOOL OF HARD KNOCKS

Location: Merrysville, Twinkle Elementary

Maps: Map 1

THINGS TO SEE AND DO:
- You may want to head back to Podunk to sort out affairs with Minnie and the store to empty your goods menu.
- The way to Podunk is now open (the curfew was lifted), so you can simply walk west of Merrysville into Podunk.
- While you may want to level up a bit from the enemies around town, save it for later when you have a new friend!

Upon your arrival to Merrysville, you'll hear many tales of a recent rock slide that bar the local trains from commuting. You'll also hear of a strange factory owned by a man named Duncan that seem to produce odd items....

If you talk with a man wearing blue who hangs around the Dept. Store, he'll ask for you to fill out a survey. If you do, you'll get the Phone Card, an item that gives you 50 calls on pay phones free of charge. You can keep it if you want, but it's generally better to have extra inventory space for more useful items.

Speaking of the Dept. Store, now's a good time to stock up on things you may need. It's highly advisable to buy Bread if you don't have any and, if you have the cash and space, a Repel Ring or two: they'll make your life easier in the next area.

In town is the local elementary school. Since you haven't been to school for quite a while now, why not stop in? The kids inside have their own gossip that differs from the grown-ups in Merrysville.

Be careful who you talk to! One of the kids inside the school will sneeze on you, giving you a cold. If you contract the virus, the only was to heal it is to see a doctor.

However, if you need some HP, there's a nurse inside who'll gladly help for free. This is a great place to keep in mind for levelling up later, as most free-healing places are. The only catch is that she can only refill HP, not PP.

Most of the children talk about a boy named Loid who seems to be on the geeky side. Some even saw him steal explosives! However, the boy is not to be found, and if you try to go on the roof, you'll find it locked.

If you head to the Janitor's room on the east side of the base floor, he'll yell about all the kids who play hookey on the roof...and then go into a rant about his wife. If you adopt the "good kid" attitude, he'll soften up and agree to unlock the roof for you. (Answer Yes, Yes, No, Yes)

On the roof you'll see a peculiar garbage can that quivers. If you talk to it, you'll finally find Loid. He's hiding from bullies, but has a keen interest in the bottle rockets that Sweet Little's Factory produces. In order to show him your seriousness in friendship, he'll want you to recover one from the factory.

If you exit the school and follow the path on South Merrysville down (not on the path you took from the XX Cave), you'll find the factory. Luckily, it's not guarded.
